Electricity distribution rates

Caruna Oy and Caruna Espoo Oy distribution rates

Caruna is comprised of two electricity distribution companies: Caruna Oy and Caruna Espoo Oy. Caruna Oy is responsible for electricity distribution in its network areas in South, West, and Southwest Finland, and in the regions of Satakunta and Koillismaa. Caruna Espoo Oy operates in Espoo, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, and Joensuu. For the more specific details, please see our network area map.

Two separate distribution companies

Caruna Oy and Caruna Espoo Oy are two separate companies with separate pricing policies. Each company sets its electricity distribution rates independently, and their rates are affected by factors such as local network conditions.

Caruna Espoo Oy’s network is situated in urban areas. Urban conditions are generally favourable to electricity distribution because of higher population density, meaning that there is less electrical network construction required per customer. In towns, the electrical network is largely placed underground, which means it is better protected from weather damage and reduces network repair and maintenance needs.

The majority of Caruna Oy’s network is situated in rural areas. In rural conditions, the length of electrical network per customer is considerably higher. The network is also very exposed to natural phenomena, significantly increasing maintenance and repair costs.
