Industrial electricity tax to be lowered as of 1 January 2021

The industrial electricity tax included in the electricity distribution invoice will be lowered to 0.063 c/kWh at the beginning of the year. The change also applies to commercial greenhouse production.

Under the proposed amending Act ratified on 17 December 2020, category II electricity tax will be lowered to the EU minimum level as of the start of 2021. Category II electricity tax will be 0.07812 cents/kWh (incl. VAT 24 % and the charge levied to guarantee security of supply) after the turn of the year. Before the change, electricity tax was 0.87172 cents/kWh (incl. VAT 24 % and security of supply charge).

The lower tax (category II) rate applies to electricity used in industry, data centers or commercial greenhouses. 

No action is required from our customers as the change will be automatically taken into account on the invoice. 

Examples of tax category II changes and resulting savings (VAT 0 %) 

  • With an annual usage of 100 MWh – €640/year
  • With an annual usage of 500 MWh – €3.200/year
  • With an annual usage of 1,000 MWh – €6.400/year
