The objective is to increase the number of blood donors in the Seinäjoki region and throughout Finland, as well as to increase awareness about the importance of donating blood. Blood donation activities are dependent on volunteers. Blood platelets remain usable only for five days, so donors are needed every working day. Also new donors are needed continuously.
Doing good through sport
The Head Coach of Seinäjoen Peliveljet, Tommy Koponen, thinks it is great that the team can activate people to help in this important issue.
"Our joint wish is to increase the number of blood donors and to get everyone involved. We wanted to do something exceptional and gave our red jersey as the visible meter of the campaign. During the campaign, we will not only donate blood ourselves but also challenge various parties to get involved – the more people that go and donate blood, the faster the right colour will return to our jerseys," Tommy explains.
The inspiration for the campaign came from abroad, where good results have been achieved with this visible and strongly engaging means.
Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Anne Pirilä, says of Caruna's role: "This initiative, the #Elämänvirtaa campaign, strengthens Caruna's commitment to social projects. In the same way as electricity flows in cables and lines, life-maintaining blood flows in our veins. Every one of us needs many kinds of power. Together with the Blood Service and Seinäjoen Peliveljet's representative team in the Floorball League, which plays in red jerseys, we are facilitating a communal blood donation campaign. We hope that #Elämänvirtaa will strengthen the chain of helping and with the collaboration, human lives can be saved."
During the campaign period from 29 December 2019 to 29 February 2020, blood donors are hoped to visit either the Seinäjoki blood service office or any blood donation location. All the donation locations can be found on the Blood Service website. The donation is registered correctly when the campaign ID #Elämänvirtaa is mentioned when donating blood.
The campaign is run by Seinäjoen Peliveljet, Blood Service and Caruna. We act as the facilitator for the campaign.
