Caruna in 2021

We are a part of our customers' day-to-day lives – every day of the year. Our electricity network is located in Southern, Southwestern, and Western Finland, the regions of Satakunta and Koillismaa, and the city of Joensuu. All our over 700,000 customers are the focus of our operations. The length of our network was at 88,100 kilometers and its reliability was 99.99 percent.

Regulatory changes slow down the reform of electricity network

Society must be electrified for Finland to achieve its ambitious climate targets. Modern smart electricity networks will become essential as the consumption of electricity and the share of weather-dependent production increases. At Caruna, we are working hard with our partners to enable clean, renewable energy to be distributed and ensure our network can withstand increasingly extreme weather conditions.

Electricity network needs to be capable of responding to changes in the operating environment

We aim to guide our customers and Finnish society through the energy transition and ensure that carbon-neutrality is achieved according to the schedule. During the year 2021, we updated our strategy to be better equipped to meet the rapidly evolving demands of a society in the grips of accelerating climate change. It is our job to safeguard high-quality, cost-efficient, and sustainable electricity distribution for our customers under all conditions.

Aiming for a million satisfied customers.

Solar panels became more common and interest is growing

In 2021 there were 12,060 small-scale solar energy producers in our network area. A public survey we conducted showed that consumers are interested in solar energy: 54 percent of Finns are interested in using solar panels.

Distribution prices decreased in Caruna Espoo Oy's area

We reduced the price of electricity distribution in the area of Caruna Espoo Oy by an average of 2.5 percent. The price reduction affected approximately 226,000 customers in Espoo, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi and the center of Joensuu.

Sensors warn of snow and ice in Rymättylä

We installed 15 snow load sensors on the Rymättylä power line, that indicate when snow and ice accumulate on the power lines. Excess cargo can be removed, for example, by helicopter before it has time to cause damage.

Corporate responsibility is part of our strategy and day-to-day work

We take every aspect of corporate responsibility into consideration equally: environmental responsibility, social and financial responsibility, and good governance. Our corporate responsibility programme is based on our stakeholders' requirements and needs and on our mission to guide our customers and society through the energy transition.

Sustainable energy distribution

In our core business, we aim to secure the smooth day-to-day life of our customers, achieve operational efficiency, and earn the trust of stakeholders.

Combating climate change

We are focusing on promoting emission-free energy production and consumption and reducing our carbon footprint with the goal of becoming carbon neutral.

Work and safety

We employ directly and indirectly more than 1,300 persons in Finland. We develop contractor safety and employee well-being.
