Responsible business activities
We act in a responsible way as a part of the Finnish society. The electrical network is one of the most important parts of society’s infrastructure and the reliability of the electricity supply plays an important role for our customers, trade and industry, communities and the authorities.
The key purpose of our business activities is to supply our customers with electricity in an easy, reliable and safe way, while also keeping control of environmental impacts. This way we contribute to supporting the whole society and its functionality.
We want to produce great energy for all our interest groups. We are committed to a responsible mode of operation in all our activities and work actively with our interest groups to improve the economic, social and environmental impacts of our activities at all times.
- Our products and services are of high quality and easily available.
- Our company and all our employees make sure that we abide by the law in all our activities.
- We recognise the environmental impacts of our activities and take them into consideration in everything we do. We take the whole life cycle of the electrical network into account.
- We cooperate with municipalities and the authorities.
- We systematically assess the risks of our activities. This way we minimise any damage caused to people, the environment and business activities.
- Our target is to offer everyone a safe working environment where each employee carries their own responsibility. We continuously monitor and improve safety at work.
- We require our partners to commit themselves to our responsible mode of operation.
- We have set targets for the management of our company. Our entire staff is committed to our shared targets.
- We continuously assess and improve our activities.
- We communicate openly both internally and externally.
Safety and the environment
We regularly identify and assess the dangers relating to our electrical network and activities. We plan, build, monitor and maintain our electrical network in such a way that it causes no danger to our customers or the rest of society. We take environmental impacts into account in everything we do.
A safe working environment is not only a pledge we make, but also a requirement we make for ourselves and our partners. Safety is our shared concern and an essential part of our activities. We make regular safety inspections and analyse occupational safety at regular intervals.
We continuously strive to improve safety at work and encourage our partners to improve their safety on the job sites. We provide our partners with training in safety issues and actively participate in the development of safety within the industry.
In our opinion, every accident is a failure, because everyone has the right to go home unharmed after a day at work.
Investments and property management
Every year, we invest about two hundred million euros in our electrical network. The purpose of these investments is to guarantee our customers reliable electricity and to promote more sustainable energy production.
We take a long-term view of things and develop our activities by comparing the best practices in the industry. Our target is to be a forerunner in our industry in Europe.
We improve our electrical networks in such a way that in the future they will enable us to create more diverse energy systems than ever before, provide our customers with the opportunity to sell on the energy they produce via our network and promote a wider use of electrified transport than before.
In practice, our annual investment of a hundred million euros means that we employ a significant number of people in Finland from one year to the next, directly and indirectly, regardless of the economic situation.
We improve the electrical network in many ways: by making the management of vegetation in the power line corridors more efficient, by increasing cabling and network automation and by moving power lines so that they run parallel to the road, thus strengthening weatherproofing and maintenance support performance. We improve the electrical network in all the areas where we distribute electricity.
